In the recent political debates that have been occurring throughout the year, one topic that has seen to make an appearance is the question if minimum wage should be raised or not. The majority of American citizens are in agreement with the increase in minimum wage, in fact, most Americans want it to be raised to at least fifteen dollars. Undoubtedly, the country as a whole would benefit greatly with an increase of the minimum wage in all aspects of its society. For instance, the last six years the minimum wage has been set at seven dollars and twenty five cents an hour. Currently, a person working full time on minimum wage in the United States makes below the poverty line annually. A person living off of minimum wage should have the ability to support themselves comfortably and have the opportunity to save a little as well. Also, in order for a person to support themselves and live comfortably they must make at least fifty thousand a year in the United States. This doesn’t include the means of taking care of a family, which in return leads to families of at least four to make significantly more in order to live well. Imagine a family of four, where both parents are making minimum wage. They are most likely going to be struggling and needing government assistance to just get by. Due to the recession that occurred in the years through 2007 to 2009, there has been a significant amount of people working minimum wage jobs and needing help from the government. Even government officials are starting to complain about this and are trying to figure out a solution to the problem. In raising minimum wage it would lift hundreds of thousands of people out of poverty, which in turn will allow people to no longer need government assistance. Another aspect of this is that it would increase the economy to a substantial amount because less people will be off food stamps, Medicare, and
