Minimum wage and poverty has numerous social effects because of the difficulty to support themselves and their families. Some families choose to live further away from work for cheaper rent, but every dollar they save on housing, they spend an additional 77 cents on transportation. People are also often forced to share housing because of the high costs. Raising it would help to stimulate the economy because it would allow those low-income workers to spend more money. This would help bring more opportunity for jobs because businesses would need to hire more employees to keep up with the increased sales. They would also be better able to support themselves, so social programs won’t need as much funding. The minimum wage should also be raised to account for inflation, which is raised every year, while the minimum wage is rarely increased.
Despite the possible disadvantages of raising the minimum wage, it has quite a few benefits. There are countless possibilities that could occur from raising it, such as stimulating the economy, create more job opportunities, and allowing people to earn enough money to support themselves and their families.
