Imagine moving to a new town where you have no family or friends, and a stranger welcomes you into their family. They make it their personal responsibility to show you how to navigate around the community, places to eat, worship, and even areas to avoid. They invite your family over for holidays, and even Sunday dinners. Then you learn that this person who has done such a great deed works a full-time job, volunteers at a local shelter, goes to church every Sunday, and is fighting cancer.
When I think of someone who has influenced my life in a significant way; I consider someone who embodies the true essence of courage, strength, and love. A person who impacts me in a way that I could modify my life choices. Someone who serves as a role model, a motivator who exudes the qualities that I desire. I found that person in a woman unexpectedly. Mrs. Thelma Jones is a woman with good values, a sense of honor, integrity, compassion, and her life exudes these qualities. The manner in which she conducts herself in business, with her family, and in the community is inspiring. I met Mrs. Jones 19 years ago when I moved to Michigan with my husband, and three small children.

Jones is the strength and courage she exuded when she learned that she had cancer. As we pulled up to the oncologist, she mumbled, "Whatever this doctor has to say, it will not stop me from fighting to live, or making it to the shelter tonight." I watched her get this life altering news and begin praying, claiming that she was not afraid. As the months passed she went to chemotherapy appointments and continued working, and taking care of her family. She never complained, never blamed God, and never stopped being optimistic about living each day to the fullest! During this time, Mrs. Jones continue donating to charity, volunteering at a local shelter, cooking meals for my family, and shopping while taking care of her ailing mother, who was 93 years
