When signing up for this class, I knew that it would challenge some of my already enforced skills and force me to learn new ones in order to adapt to the workload and the style of writing that I was learning how to write. I had never been introduced to writings such as visual or rhetorical analysis, and this abstract type of writing made it a little harder to wrap my head around. Knowing that this class was going to challenge me, I’m glad that I chose to stick with it and turns out my favorite essay was also my most challenging. Out of all of the essays: rhetorical analysis, visual analysis, annotated bibliography, and the research essay we just got finished with, I would say that the research essay challenged my abilities the most. Pettit IWCC English Composition II 29 May 2024 The Right Decision Out of all of the classes I could take, I know I made the right decision when we started writing our first essay, the rhetorical analysis essay. I have had a lot of success with advanced English classes in the past, starting with Advanced Language Arts in 8th grade and then Intro Advanced Literary Analysis freshman year. I enjoyed both of these classes so it was a no-brainer in my mind to take IWCC English Composition this year. I have enjoyed all of the essays we have written this trimester and am excited to continue the advanced path with AP Literature next year. My willingness to sign up for these English classes can be attributed to my personality traits, as I always want to be an overachiever and advance my skills as best as I can. This class has definitely been the right choice for me and has challenged my skills in the best way possible. Firstly, I have continued to sign up for all of these advanced English classes because I not only have enjoyed them so much, but my personality type just fits them really well as well. I like getting stuff done and feeling proud of my work when I hit submit. I learned pretty early that these attributes go best with advanced classes because they give you more opportunities to show your skills and challenge your time management skills. I do a lot of extracurricular activities outside of school as well, and I enjoy staying busy so I don’t mind doing homework outside of school either. Having these types of traits, I knew I would be able to handle the workload that came with taking an IWCC class, especially when I had already taken a class in the past with the same teacher. Secondly, I know this class has been the right decision for me because of my goals for the future and because of the skills I have learned along the way.
