I would pull a quote from whatever source I was using and summarize how it made sense in my writing. I never realized or was taught that quotes cannot stand alone. I was never made aware that you could not simply quote something and then explain it. When grading my Writing Project two, Mrs. Danner commented “you tend to summarize, then quote the same thing” (_____). A correct way to quote something is, for example, I correctly quoted something different in my Writing Project two, “While this being said, there are many other ways to prevent pregnancy. Tisdale even mentions that she ‘grew up on the great promise of birth control’ (710).” (McDonald, two). Mrs. Danner commented on this in my essay and said, “much better, strong use of quotes” (_____). The more I write, the more I better understand and grasp the idea of not being able to let quotes stand alone. In my Writing Project three, I connected my idea from the movie with a quote I found: for example, “Growing up and going through high school and teenage years, it is hard to figure out who you are: ‘Discovering the unknown is what teenagers have done every day’ (“Change the world”).” (____). I improved my use of quotes in Writing Project three and hopefully in this paper as
