The internet is the world’s biggest source of information. Though every country has its regulations on it that prevent certain information from being shown or even how fast you get certain websites. In America there was a law that was recently repealed called net neutrality. Net neutrality is the concept of not discriminate or charge customers by content, website, platform, and method of communication. In 2015 the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) passed a bill called the Open Internet Order which reclassified internet access which was an information service to a common telecommunications service. In this article, there was an ad by Burger king that ran a hidden camera social experiment that simulated prices of how fast they wanted the burger to be made. “We believe the internet should be like Burger King restaurants, a place that doesn’t prioritize and welcomes everyone” [1]. By having net neutrality, it prevents ISP’s (Internet service providers) to charge you more to give you a priority to load into websites like Facebook or YouTube. In some countries like for example Portugal, there is a ISP that sells a regular data service that you can use but offers another data service for websites that take up most of their traffic. They break it down into packages for example messaging like the iPhone’s iMessage, or social apps like Facebook and Instagram and even accessing your email. ISP’s do this so they can charge you more for using a brand name you trust instead of being forced into what they offer for email, messaging and socializing.
