CULTURE OF NORTH KOREA: THE IMPACT ON US ARMY OPERATIONS

(U) Understanding North Korean culture is the pathway to victory for the US Military. North Korea remains a constant threat to US allies in the Pacific due to access to nuclear weapons. The quick temper of North Korea leader means the US military cannot attack North Korea with a conventional force. Therefore, understanding the major cultural factors of North Koreans is the pathway to being victorious. If the US Military can process North Korean entertainment, religion, and philosophy; defeating North Korea will be a simple task to accomplish.

(U) The entirety of North Korea domestic arts: from music, dance, and literature, is complete controlled by the government. These total control was created to constantly enforce a strong sense of national pride among the North Koreans. These attempts to be an isolated country fail when many foreign books and movies sneak their way in. North Koreans arriving back from China often smuggle these objects in as their popularity continues to rise. North Koreans loyalty is directed at the state and more focused, their leader. Any other form of worship is a waste but one in particular stands out even today. Ch’ŏndogyo is a monotheistic religion that combined the factors of many religion that were in North Korea during Ch’ŏndogyo’s founding. This religion not only help founded the government of “modern” North Korea but is constantly used in their propaganda as well.
