Race is a “…group of people who share a set of characteristics typically, but not always physical ones, and are said to share a common bloodline” (Conley 322). The first factor is that throughout history, society made assumptions about people based on their physical appearance. Skin color, eye color, and hair color are examples. The second factor would be that people in society created race because race is based on a “…set of stories we tell ourselves to organize reality and make sense of the world…” (Conley 322). Which means, that race helps people understand why some people are different skin colors.

As a result, some slaves tried to move to the North because they wanted to be free. These examples make me believe that race is an overall opinion on a person based other physical appearances. In addition, society creates rules of what it means to be a certain race, and who is considered to be white. I think that it is ridiculous that society has certain guidelines of what it means to be a certain race because I believe all races should be treated
