After high school I plan on attending a public university in Oregon to major in Nursing to become a pediatric nurse working in the hospital. I’ll be the first generation in my family to attend college. I come from a large extended family where I am constantly surrounded by children and I have a great passion for helping sick children. At Benson high school I chose to major in medical professions. As I went through the rotations in the health occupations major, I thought that nursing was the right career for me. I have patience and compassion when it comes to helping ill children. The skills that I have learned in my previous volunteering experience in a clinical setting has gave me an enormous amount of knowledge of what it’s like to work in the hospital. My parents, on the other hand, came from Russia knowing little English. English was not my first language, it was Russian. When I started school I learned how to speak and write in english. As I became fluent, I was able to help translate for my parents when it came to school meetings and conferences, as well as filling out paperwork. I was able to use what I learned to do something meaningful for my family and I am proud to be helpful. I had a great opportunity to learn english that my parents did not have. Whenever my parents are very busy I take care of my younger siblings. Most of the time I was not able to hang out with my friends because I was responsible for caring for my siblings. I knew family always came first no matter what. Since I was the oldest daughter my parents counted on me the most to do everything I was taught to
