My parents, on the other hand, came from Russia knowing little English. English was not my first language, it was Russian. When I started school I learned how to speak and write in english. As I became fluent, I was able to help translate for my parents when it came to school meetings and conferences, as well as filling out paperwork. I was able to use what I learned to do something meaningful for my family and I am proud to be helpful. I had a great opportunity to learn english that my parents did not have. Whenever my parents are very busy I take care of my younger siblings. Most of the time I was not able to hang out with my friends because I was responsible for caring for my siblings. I knew family always came first no matter what. Since I was the oldest daughter my parents counted on me the most to do everything I was taught to
