Give an example of when you have had to deal with an incident where a child Has displayed challenging behaviour, how did you deal with this, and what sort of discipline problems should be referred to others. At what stage would you involve the Childs parent/carer or other agencies?
Providing a safe environment, promoting desired discipline and behaviour, promoting early intervention, promoting self-discipline, and self esteem, promoting correct regard for authority ,mutual respect helps positive relationships, that everyone work together to help everyone learn. Staff are consistent in what is expected from pupils, pupils have to take responsibility for their behaviour and are encouraged to do so. All staff enforces the rules of the classroom and how pupils should behave. Each child’s needs are taken into consideration when looking at the negative or challenging behaviour. Lots of positive praise is given, to encourage the pupil that things can be turned around, if needed the pupil may be moved nearer to the front of class, constant reminders are given loss of break, lunch or maybe an afterschool detention will be given, sometimes if behaviour is disruptive the child may be sent to work in a different classroom. I worked with a pupil who refused to do football outside because it was too cold, i offered him warm outerwear, but still was adamant that he wouldn’t be doing it.
