Throughout the history of foster care there have been many strives to make the lives of many children better, but there is always room for improvement. With the particular subject of foster care it needs to be taken seriously, because these are the lives of children. The history of foster care shows one definite thing, and that is that there are children that need to be helped and most importantly loved. According to The Child Welfare League of America, in 1997 the Adoption and Safe Families Act helped establish many things to help the foster care program from providing adoption bonuses. Permanency is either reunification permanency which is when a child is permanently unified with biological parents, or permanency can be in the form of adoption. Either way permanency is a way to find a child a permanent home. In the foster system permanency is not always an option for foster parents, because some strictly just want to foster which is great; however, there are many families that strive to give a permanent home to children they hold near and dear to their hearts. In the case of Tara Williamson and her husband, they have been foster parents from 2014-2017. This does not make any sense if this system is for the well being of the children. This is a little human’s life not a experiment to see if the parent can be a parent yet. According to Child Welfare Information Gateway, statistics show that in 2012 physical abuse victims sat at a 29.8% of all maltreated children, and that was the second largest percentage of all maltreatment situations. Giving a child back is like a slap on the hand to the parent, and in some circumstances could be a slap to the face of an innocent child for the second time.
