Personal Narrative: My Work Ethic

At the beginning of my part time serving career, I was put into a difficult situation where I had ultimately failed. Looking back to this time last year, I have realized that I have grown a great amount in leadership, responsibility, and also with my own work ethic. I was still adapting to having a job as well as juggling honors and AP school work during my training when my managers said I need to be on my own. After finishing my training, I was serving tables on my own with little to no experience in being a waitress as well as communicating thoroughly with others. I was tapping in wrong orders on the computers, bringing food to the wrong tables, dropping plates full and empty, disrupting the take out counter with my moving about, and not reaching the tables in an …show more content…
She told me to stop apologizing and start learning from my mistakes. Disgruntled from my shift, I sat down to think about what she had said to me. I realized I need to stop making excuses, like saying the customer was wrong or that the computer shut down, and work harder for myself and for those around me. My actions negatively affected those around me as well as myself, so I knew I had to change my habits. Within a year of hard work and dedication to my performance , I became one of the best reviewed servers at my workplace. I was promoted to a trainer, received a raise, and my managers were even considering to promote me to assistant manager. I have been applying what I learned from my time of serving to my school work. Since then I have also been taking more rigorous courses, including Advanced Placement for United States history, Biology, and Government history, taking challenges, and helping others reach their goals through tutoring. I began to set new goals for my academic career, including a high grade point average as well as being accepted into National Honors Society as well as volunteering to grade for one of my
