On Sunday, August 9, 2015, Senator Bernie Sanders became the second Democratic candidate to release a statement about police brutality. Sanders stated that “real change takes place when millions of people stand up and say ‘enough is enough’.” Sanders strongly stands against police brutality and racial inequality, he has addressed the issues more frequently and consistently compared to any other 2016 presidential candidate. Sanders stated, addressing a crowd, “It is unacceptable that police officers beat up people or kill people. If they do that, they have got to be held accountable.” Sanders is a national candidate that appears to feel strongly about eliminating the constant cases of police brutality. On the other hand, other national candidates such as Donald Trump hold different views on the issue of police brutality. When asked about the concerns of police brutality, Trump responded with “we have to give power back to the police, because we have to have law and order.” Although Trump stated he emphasized with the concerns of police brutality, he also expressed compassion and empathy for police officers by saying, “99.9 percent of what the police do is good. You’re going to have some bad apples,” he said. “It’s disgusting and it’s horrible but that’s such a tiny percentage.” Trump appears to express his views more on giving power back to police officers rather than solving the problem at hand of police officers using excessive force on
