If there is an emergency at home, the parent must be able to immediately contact the student to let them know what is going on and what to do when they get home. Additionally, if they are not going to be home until the morning, they can tell them not to eat at the house and not to stay up too late. What if the parent needs to let the student know where they are going to pick them up and what time? An example is when the student calls them to let them know when to pick them up, the parent can call them back to let them know they are there and where they are at. Plus, if the parent is not able to pick them up until later, the student can start walking home and then the parent will pick them up while they are walking. Another use for the students to have phones is if the parent needs to tell the student something very important like they will not be home on time and to take the school bus instead of waiting for a long time. Because if that happens the parent will have to come pick them up hours later and/or the student has to walk a long time to get home and will possibly have a cold if it is very cold out. If that happens, the parent will have to stay home until the student is better and they will miss work. This is another reason phones should not be banned at
