Unplanned pregnancies, rape, unstable financial situations, drug or alcohol abuse, or health risks that can end the woman’s life, are all different and valid reasons for obtaining an abortion. Young girls and women all over the world are being faced with a hard decision of whether or not they are either ready, or want to go on with their pregnancies. They can be judged or shunned from society with the decision they make. There are two sides to every story, Pro-Life, and Pro-Choice. Lots of these women are young teenagers who are physically and mentally not prepared to carry a child. People who support the Pro-Choice movement support the mother to be, and support her decision to abort her pregnancy if she chooses too. There are some people who think that the act of an abortion is such a crime, that they feel the need to get rid of the people who carry out the procedures. There were three known shootings in Canada of doctors who provided abortions, two in British Columbia and one in Ontario. Violence against pro-choice supporters, women, and doctors has created such fear that over the years, access to abortion clinics has been getting harder and harder. The reasons for abortions are endless, some of which include becoming pregnant as a result of rape. Women’s Care Clinic, an abortion clinic located in Toronto, provides safe services such as first and second trimester abortions, pre-abortion counseling, birth control counseling, and much more. They also do not require parental consent if the patient is under the age of 18, which makes it easier for young girls to access these services. Since these services are covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan, the government also provides a pill that can induce at home abortions. With having access to this alternative method, women now have the choice on a non-invasive, and safe choice, which keeps the reproductive health of the woman at its peak. As society moves forward, more women are coming forward with their stories.
