“In practice, this means that the average teenager has trouble falling asleep before 11 p.m.and imposition of early school start times may require unrealistic or even unattainable bedtimes to provide adequate time for sleeping” (Bostwick 592). Throughout the passage, there is evidence as to why students don't currently get enough sleep, and how more time in the morning because of a later school start time would benefit them. Starting school later would allow students to get adequate sleep and make it easier for students to get to class on time. School starting later leads to improved student safety at the high school level. "Poor or inadequate sleep is correlated with higher rates of obesity, higher rates of depression, higher motor-vehicle crash rates, and lower cognitive performance" (Groen and Pabilonia 216). Not only would later school start times improve all of these issues because students would be able to get more sleep, it would also cause a significant increase in students' lives.
