In that time how much damage will be done? This is one of the main reasons why teachers and staff need guns to help protect the children. Here is a quote from Mr. White, “As we weigh our options, I believe we need to consider providing school employees with more choices than just locking a door, hiding in a closet or diving in front of bullets to protect students. With the legal authority, licensing and proper training, I believe allowing school administrators, teaches or other staff to carry firearms on the school premises is an option worth exploring.” (Lindstorm, “Pa. lawmaker renews push to arm Teachers, school staff”). Here is a quote by Mr. McGee, “They have to be able to protect themselves, and if they’re going through a program and they’re going to arm themselves at school, they’re doing it to protect our children.” (Parr, “Should Teachers carry Guns in school?”) Here is a quote from Massillon police sgt, J.J. DiLoreto, “It can’t hurt. You have a lot of teachers who are avoiding hunters and are familiar with firearms. They should be required to get training… If nothing else, they could defend classrooms. Right, now you have teachers putting themselves in harm’s way trying to deflect bullets. At least they would have a fighting chance.” (Staley, “Law enforcement: Training is needed before arming Teachers with Guns”). If people would just think about it not all schools have a police station nearby. By the time …show more content…
‘Opponents of teacher possession of handguns objected that the necessary training would be too expensive and that teachers owning guns would set a bad example for students.’ (Carter, “Guns in American Society”). I don’t seem to see how it would be a bad example for students. If the students know the reason to why the guns are being used they would understand, and not see it as a bad example at all. Then there are other people who think that it will cause more harm than innocents. Here is a quote from Steven H. Gunn, a member of the board of directors of the Gun Violence Prevention Center of Utah and a Holladay city councilman. “But a gun in school is far more likely to lead to the harm of an innocent than to the protection of innocent people.” (Lestch, Teachers feel capable of protecting students with guns on school property). For this quote I would have to say that if the gun is used properly, and is kept away from the students and in the teachers reach, I don’t see any harm coming towards anybody who is of innocence. Here is a quote from a website, “Arming teachers is totally impractical for a number of reasons, but one of the most compelling ones that people don’t consider is that it makes schools responsible for the safety of students.” (Stewart, Why can’t we arm teachers and require better background checks for gun purchases?). Now I would have to totally disagree with this quote. Schools are a
