The sociocultural perspective focuses on how cultural and social factors influence human behavior. The sociocultural method explains what make sand defines us as individuals. It emphasizes on the influence that society has on our learning process. It assumes a person’s cognitive development is determined by a number of social relations and environmental contexts. Parents, caregivers, and society are responsible for a child’s cognitive development. If a child is participating in an activity with someone, the child will the begin to act in a way that they have learned. How children act is usually based on how the people around them are acting. While children gain knowledge and skills that are important to a certain community, they are also simultaneously learning to become a member of that community. If a high school student is at a football game with people their age, they will act a certain way. The student will act in a way that their peers around them are acting. The child that watches their parents worry about being fat constantly, will grow up always questioning if they are too fat and think fat is a bad word. A child that sees their parents having a healthy, constant lifestyle, and working out because they enjoy it, will grow up knowing that being healthy is a lifestyle and that fitness is not a punishment. The child that sees their parents having a healthy lifestyle will grow up and most likely live a healthy lifestyle as well. Whereas the child that watches their parents count calories, go on crash diets that work for two weeks, and constantly discuss being fat, will more than likely grow up to hate healthy choices and working
