Sojourner Truth was trying to prove that she and many other women were just as capable as men. She also wanted to let people know that women are strong and independent. In another writing she states, “...I see women contending’ for their rights…” (Gilbert and Gubar 254). This quote explains the struggles that women had to go through in order to achieve their rights. Sojourner Truth was willing to advocate for these women and show that they were and still are just as capable as men. They deserve the same rights as men and can achieve the same things in life. If the president were to have a team of historical advisors, it could help prevent history from repeating itself. The president would know the difference between what is right and wrong in certain situations. Also, this can help create a safer world. It is important the not only the president knows what has happened in the past, but that we also have some knowledge of history. The article also states, “The longer you can look back, the further you can look forward” (Allison and Ferguson 29). The message we should take from this quote is that we should analyze the facts of history to help us predict the future. History can help us learn and may prevent the same mistakes from happening.
