When working as a support worker, you should remain professional at all times and maintain a working relationship with the individuals that you support. Many individuals will have relationships with their friends and family, and also their social worker or any medical team around them. 1.2 It is crucial to work in partnership with others who are involved in the individuals lives to be open with what is going well and seek help and guidance when needed, it is in the best interests of the individual supported that all parties work together to communicate and plan the best way forward in a person centred way. This may be with work colleagues, friends, family, social workers or their general practice doctor. 3.1. There may be times where conflict may occur with differences of opinion, it is important to remain calm and ensure each individual's wishes are kept at the forefront of what we do while keeping to company policies and procedures. For example, if acting in the best interest of an individual, ensuring that the appropriate DOLS (Deprivation of liberty safeguard) level is in place. It may be that meetings with an agenda may be needed to discuss current topics or role modelling, and encouraging a professional approach may be enough to resolve conflict and demonstrate a
