Disney studios then created the successful “Oswald the Lucky Rabbit” which was distributed Universal Pictures. Although, because of Universal being in control, Walt was not able to profit from Oswald. He rejected the offer from Universal and this was when he created Mickey Mouse, who was originally named Mortimer Mouse. He won an Academy Award for Best Short Subject for “Flowers and Trees” and a special award for Mickey Mouse.
Walt began working on his biggest project yet. He wanted to create a full length film of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” The film took nearly three years to complete and was released in 1937 after the company ran out of money, but received 8 million dollars. Walt also said that he didn’t make films for the critics but for the general public. When he was told that his productions were corny he responded with this, “All right. I’m corny. But I think there’s just about a-hundred-and-forty-million people in this country that are just as corny as I am.” After the success of Snow White, Walt went on to create other films such as Pinocchio, Bambi, and many more of our favorite childhood
