Why Is Baseball Important To Me

The system could not be more perfect, at least in my eyes. When I was six I remember playing catch with my dad for the first time. I just could not catch that god forsaken baseball. I have no idea what inspired me to sign up for tee ball but I did. Maybe it was the peer pressure from my father, or my want to get better at the sport. Either way, I could not have been happier with my choice to sign up. I did not really understand baseball at such a young age, I mean, I knew how to swing a bat and throw a baseball… kinda. In reality I had a pretty basic idea of the what I was supposed to be doing, I just did not realize the purpose of it. Me being the curious kid I was and still am to this day, caused me to, in a way, study the game. Also, it brought out my love to play the catcher position. After getting my first try at catcher I knew this was for me. I wanted to catch so bad for my little league team but the veteran catch always started over me and I was put on second base for the majority of the games. When I did see time behind the dish I made sure coach knew that this is where I belonged. Further down the road once I got into modified sports I realized the pace of the game would quicken and become more competitive. Knowing this I increased my workload at practice and really busted my butt to try and impress the coaches. Absolutely thrilled, I got the opportunity to be moved up to be eighth grade team when I was in seventh grade. I could not believe it! Inside I was so proud of myself. The best part was telling my father that I had been moved up to the eighth grade team and seeing the smile on his face along with his excited reaction meant everything to me. Even though being moved up was great it also meant I had to have an enlarged sense of responsibility. Knowing this, I picked it up and ran with
