Year-Round School

Is year-round school more beneficial to students and teachers then the normal school year? The traditional school year features the long 3 month summer break in between school years. Year-round school schedule features frequent breaks during the year but goes through the summer as well. Both schedules are the same length of school days and how many days students and teachers receive off. Although the traditional school seems to be working fine, having Year-Round school is more beneficial because having Year-Round school provides satisfaction for teachers, helps struggling students achieve, and the traditional school year is harmful to students education.

Summer is 3 months in the normal school year, students suffer learning loss during these long months of summers. With the long summer vacation “Americans are not reaching goals and expectations of the large society” (Ballinger) due to summer learning loss. Summer learning loss is hurting students that want to succeed after high school and college. Students that suffer with summer learning loss fall behind average every year. Students that continue to struggle more and more could lead to wanting to drop out. (Ballinger) Students that fall behind are wanting to drop out or will not succeed after high school. The traditional school year with the long summer it has is hurting the student education and the success of students after schooling.
In conclusion, having Year-Round school is more beneficial that the traditional year because having Year-Round school provides satisfaction for teachers, helps struggling students achieve, and the traditional school year is harmful to the student
