I honestly never thought I could learn so much from an English class. All I did in previous English classes was write essays and read books but as soon as the class was over reading and writing were over for me as well. However, in this class I saw how different yet interesting an English class could be, not only did we read and write but we looked at rhetorical analyses in different ways and practiced them in class as a group and individually in test, too. Instead of focusing on purposed meanings or biographical background, I have learned to continually ask “why” on many different levels. We looked at how short stories, poems, speeches, and advertising use pathos logos, and ethos very effectively sometimes without the reader`s notice. Now while reading I challenge myself to dig into a text as deeply as possible. When I look back to my old novels and see clean pages, I realize that I did not actively read the book. Throughout that course I have learned to read with a pen which took my writing to a new level. After all the different activities that we did in class now I even analyze my own writing and ask myself “why” do I want to add that part? what do I want the audience to know? I have never done a debate before and I don’t do so well in public speaking, which made it even harder. The opposing side was very attacking and offensive even though I thought I was prepared after all the research I did but our topic was very broad and the opposing side was talking about totally different points from ours. But I have learned to look more confident in future debate in front of the opposing side so they don’t take advantage, and try to think deeply on what they can attack my side with to be better prepared with answers. The debates made me realize that there is always a pro and a con to everything and one side doesn’t have to be wrong but there is good from each
