A measurement of electrical activity in the brain and brain scans such as magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography are common diagnostic tests for epilepsy. There are many different ways to treat for epilepsy and the treatment type depends on the type of epilepsy a person has. Today’s treatments are used to control seizures. Treatment for epilepsy is anti-seizure medications. If the medication doesn’t work, people with epilepsy can also use the vagus nerve stimulator and respective epilepsy surgery. Improved treatments are needed because 20 percent are resistant to seizure treatment, and 60 percent feel that epilepsy treatment provide inadequate relief. It is very important that treatment is started as soon as possible, once epilepsy is
