Tubman was a slave her self, in 1849 she decided to run away after fearing she was going to be sold along with the other slaves including her husband.11 She set out and all she used was the North Star as her guide to her freedom. Tubman wanted to help other slaves be free as well, so she went back and helped them escape. In total she made 19 trips and helped over 300 slaves to freedom.12 Harriet Tubman “never lost a passenger”. 13 Tubman was a hero. After helping so many people she still helped, she took part in the abolitionist movement and anti slavery meetings. When the south finally surrendered that meant slaves were finally free. After all that they have been through they had finally won.
