Healthy Children Many parents are conflicted with the laws in all states regarding vaccines for children. Some believe that the government has no right to be involved in medical affairs; while others believe that vaccines help children become stronger and prevent illness. Newborns receive vaccines within the first few minutes of their lives, to help prevent the child from getting really sick; they administer a vaccine to get their immune system up and running (To Vaccinate). Vaccines contain diluted versions of viruses, called antigens that help your immune system create antibodies to fight actual viruses one might be exposed to in the future (Vaccines). Children can be prevented from small pox, polio, and whooping cough along with many …show more content…
Though vaccines are very effective no vaccine is one hundred percent effective (Staff). Some studies show that vaccines may cause autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and diabetes (Vaccines). Vaccines may be affiliated with learning disabilities, chronic inflammation, and asthma in children, according to The National Vaccine Information Center (Vaccines). There are some vaccines that contain aluminum, and if the human body is exposed to too much aluminum it may lead to neurological complications (Vaccines). Mandatory vaccinations go against certain religions that don’t believe in medical help to survive (Vaccines). Nineteen out of the fifty states allow people to be exempt from vaccines because of their religion (Vaccines). Many children could have an allergic reaction to a vaccine, such as some flu vaccines, which contain chicken egg protein (Vaccines). Former United States Representative and MD, Ron Paul, states “Freedom over one’s physical person is the most basic freedom of all, and people in a free society should be sovereign over their own bodies. When we give the government the power to make medical decisions for us, we in essence accept that the state knows our bodies” (Vaccines). Some pro vaccine organizations state that one can fight infections and diseases better through natural vaccinations (Vaccines). Many people argue that a child’s immune system isn’t strong enough or prepared enough to receive a vaccine with potentially harmful ingredients (Vaccines).
