The country has such diverse population that is almost impossible for everyone to agree in certain subjects. During one of the small group sessions, I remember talking to professor Medina about difficult it is to reach a decision that satisfy everyone in our government. We pick whatever may be best for the majority, and what we hold true at the time. The tricky part is to do what is best for most, without undermining the rights of the minority. If we are aware that civility is crucial to political discourse and to democracy, we are bound to respect one another and preserve the features that characterize civil political discourse. Most importantly, we must also educate future generations, if we lead by example and tech them the importance civil discourse has in our society, we are creating a better future for them. Something that is said a lot in our society is that children are the future, but we seem to do little to teach them core values as a community. Something that I learned from the Holocaust Museum is that the Nazi understood that the children were the future, which is why they were killed right when they arrived at concentration camps. If the Nazi were aware of this fact, why do we not take more actions into teaching our children about tolerance, the importance of vocabulary and active listening?
