Preschool Observation

On Friday, October fourth, 2016, I was given the opportunity to observe a preschool in the city of Fulton. The preschool was not hard to locate, although the organization had high security enforced throughout the premise of the building. Automatically, there was a presence of friendly smiles and caring personalities once I managed to walk in. I was greeted by an offering to sit in perspective of a student and sit at one of their tiny tables. This experience was very different compared to anything I have experience while attending Westminster College and I am so happy I was given this opportunity to help the community going further. While visiting, I observed a number of different elements. For example, the program goals and philosophy behind the institution, the space given to work with the students, the participants themselves along with their interests, and some of the basic needs the preschool lacked. …show more content…
The philosophy behind the organization is relatable to a successful way of learning in my opinion. The goal is to teach children by exposing them to, “learning through play.” This can mean two things, allowing children to work together like a team and giving children the opportunity to exercise movement while getting educated. Since this is their mission for their students, I want to incorporate play with my lesson. This will allow us to assist the mission through our work. Evidently it was a must to observe the space which we will be using during our service project. I noticed it was a space crowded with shelves, tables, and cabinets, though the center of the classroom has plenty of space for movement and engaging with the students.
