Diabetes Diabetes is one of the most common diseases and it does not only affect adults, but it also affects children, and teens. It is a lifelong disease with no cure that has been found. Diabetes, is caused by the inability of the body to produce any or enough insulin and elevates the levels of glucose in the blood. It causes the body to suffer from thirst, constant urination, and hunger, which are the most common symptoms of diabetes. There are two types of diabetes type 1 and type 2. They both have different symptoms, causes, treatment options, and healthier living alternatives with someone that suffers from this condition. With type 1 and type 2 diabetes heredity and environmental factors play a huge role especially when it comes to the more severe case of type 2 diabetes. Type 2 is stronger than type 1 diabetes due to the fact that it can be passed on a lot easier to a family member. Some treatments include; injecting insulin, oral medication. Insulin, is a natural hormone in the pancreas that is regularly released to regulate sugar throughout the body. The treatment of insulin injection is for people whose bodies do not produce insulin regularly or use it properly. The American Diabetes Association states that “There are more than 20 types of insulin sold in the United States. These insulins differ in how they are made, how they work in the body, and how much they cost. Your doctor will help you find the right type of insulin for your health needs and, lifestyle.” This quote is explaining that there are different types of insulin for different types of bodies and life styles that the people have. Insulin can be very expensive and not everyone can afford it so doctors also make insulin that will be affordable. There are also different types of insulin that work faster and last longer. Some insulin are rapid-acting insulin, which begins working fifteen minutes after injection and last about two to four hours. Regular or short –acting insulin starts working within thirty minutes once it hits the bloodstream and is also another form of injection. Another treatment is oral medication when taking medication for diabetes it will work best if taken with a meal. It does not work for everyone, but people
