Sugar is known to be a very sticky, stiff substance; and when it binds to our red blood cells, it essentially causes them to become sticky and stiff as well. When the substance of sugar takes over our red blood cells and makes them stiff and sticky, our blood circulation is interfered. Interference in blood circulation causes cholesterol build …show more content…
Those who are at highest risk of this disease are those who are over the age of forty-five and increases as you get older. Old age becomes a risk factor diabetes because people at or above the age of forty-five tend to exercise less, lose muscle mass, and gain weight. But, type-two diabetes is also found in children, adolescents and younger adults. How is this so? Well, type-two diabetes is also hereditary, so if your parent or sibling has type-two diabetes, you are at risk of getting the disease too. Weight and inactivity is a major risk factor for diabetes, the less exercise in your life can lead to an increase in fatty tissue. The more fatty tissues in one's body, the more resistant one's cells become to producing insulin. Another risk factor is those who have prediabetes. These individuals have high blood sugar levels but have not yet developed the disease. If these individuals don't take precaution and choose to live a healthy lifestyle, their prediabetes can eventually turn into diabetes type-two. Once type-two diabetes is obtained, the prognosis consists of nerve damage, vision impairment, heart attack, stroke, and even premature death. As discussed previously, glucose in the blood causes the blood to not flow normally. After the damage of small blood vessels are noticed, patients will undergo atherosclerosis which is the hardening of the large …show more content…
These measures include daily exercise and a good healthy diet consisting of all of the daily nutrients needed to sustain your body’s homeostasis while at the same time keeping yourself away from consuming too much glucose. This alone has shown a dramatic change in the amount of people suffering from type-two diabetes. Treatment for those people who have already obtained type-two diabetes is very simple. Obese people with type-two diabetes can treat their diabetes with weight loss. “In fact, a 2001 study found that a combination of weight loss and regular exercise can cut the development of the disease by half in people at risk of getting diabetes”(Kennedy, “Diabetes”). If weight loss doesn’t treat the disease, you are also able of taking additional drugs that can stimulate your pancreas to produce more insulin and even make your insulin more effective. Some people with type-two diabetes require insulin injections to maintain their blood-sugar levels at a safe
