When Vincent was eleven, he transferred from his local school in Zundert to a boarding school in Zevenbergen. He did not like it and was unhappy there, but he completed his elementary schooling. In September 1872, Vincent began contact with his brother Theo. Theo began to work at Goupil in 1873, in Brussels. Vincent was transferred to that branch the same year.
During Vincent’s time in London, he visited places such as the British Museum and the National Gallery. There he admired paintings by artists such as François Millet and Jules Breton. He was transferred to Paris in 1875, where he became very religious. In spite of his interest in art he became uninterested in his job, the employer noticed and dismissed him from the job in 1876.
Then, he returned to London where he worked as an assistant in a boys boarding school. Later, he found a better, paying job in a private school in Isleworth, near London.
