The life of Vincent van Gogh
Vincent Willem van Gogh was born in Zundert, Netherlands on March 30, 1853 and then died in Auvers-sur-oise, France on July 29, 1890. van Gogh’s parents were: Theodorus van Gogh, and Anna Cornelia Carbentus. van Gogh's Father, Theodorus, was a country minister while his mother, Anna, was an artist. Her love for nature, drawing and watercolors had been inherited by Vincent. Vincent had 7 siblings but the eldest one died when he was just a newborn, so now, Vincent is the eldest of them all. His 2 younger brothers were: Theo and Cor. He also had 3 younger sisters who were named: Anna, Elisabeth, and Willemien. van Gogh was 15 when he was forced to quit school and get a job because his family was suffering financially. He got a job and worked for his uncle in an art dealership, Goupil Cie, a firm of art dealers in the hague. When he was there, he fell in love with English culture. He constantly visited art galleries in his spare time and became fond of Charles Dickens and George Eliot's writings. He also fell in love with Eugenie Loyer, who was the Landlady's daughter. Though, when van Gogh proposed to her, she turned him down. van Gogh was devastated and had a breakdown. He threw all of his books away except the bible becausehe devoted himself to God.
