Abstract
Introduction
Net Neutrality can be an obscure subject matter as there are multiple definitions.
The internet has always been thought as a free and open place to communicate with anyone and everything as quickly as possible, to which our internet connection can provide from our ISP. Concurrently, this space may be changing as new laws are created and changed.
This paper covers the basis of what net neutrality means and the concepts of how traffic management and deep packet inspection could monitor the internet.
Definition 1 Net neutrality the principle that internet users should be able to access any web content or use any applications, without restrictions or limitations from …show more content…

This topic has become too light due to laws changing in America. The federal communications commission (FCC) has decided that the classification that covers the ISP’s from discriminating the traffic in America needed to be changed from “telecommunications services” to “information services”.
Over the last year this has brought the issue into the light that net neutrality is open to ISPs to implement traffic management to benefit themselves or others. The different concepts that have been in the limelight have been that ISP’s can cash in on the new openness of the restraints that were placed on …show more content…
Things are changing as ISP’s insist that their networks are very costly to maintain and grow, which is true. As content such as video files and other forms of visual content consume more bandwidth than others, such as reading text based websites such as articles and academic content ISP’s might decide to change their policies and charge the biggest media companies as they use more bandwidth than others.
If this type of behaviour develops ISP’s could in theory include faster internet to certain websites than others, thus restricting different company based on what they pay them or what ISP’s charge the end user. All in all end users are affected in some way either by being charged more for their connection to websites in a way that their connection is not restricted anymore or being affected by the services they use such as Facebook say, hypothetically Facebook gets charged more as their consumption is high, Facebook might than bombard end users with more advertising.
Overall certain types of traffic can also be affected in this scenario of prioritising traffic especially VOIP applications. [2]
