Discrimination has always been a problem throughout history, whether it's religion or race, but a different problem that most people do not recognize has occurred. This problem is in the workplace. Women in the United States are important to our society, but are paid less for equal work performed by men even with the same education and experience. Women are capable of doing the same work as a man and being paid less for the same job is wrong. MSN has recently done a study that say ,”Fathers earned the highest overall median salaries at about $67,900, compared to $46,800 for married mothers, and single women with children had the lowest median salary at $38,200”(MSN). This problem has been ongoing and it relates to the traditional …show more content…
Pregnancy is important to all women, and this can hurt her when it comes getting a job. A website named economics.help explains this in a simple way saying,” However, taking a break from work means women are less likely to get promoted. Also, women of childbearing age, may be viewed as a liability. This is because if they become pregnant the firm has to pay maternity leave, and find somebody to fill the temporary gap”(Economics.help). Unless you have a hard working, caring husband you have to take care of the children, cook, and clean. This is why most women stay at home because it is a job in itself just to take care of their home. It even says in the Bible, 1 Timothy 3:12, “Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well.” (1 Timothy 3:12 NIV) If you are Christian wife, this shows how important it is to be a good mother of your household. Some might say that women deserve lower pay just because they are a female. This is wrong. Maybe if you thought this in the old days you would have more support and people would not argue with you, but my question is why they think this? Is it because they are weak or is it because they are just a women? Females nowadays are strong, for example Ronda Rousey, she is a UFC boxer who kicks butt! She is capable of doing many things some men can not do. These issues have been a problem for ages, and it must be overlooked because women have more opportunities than they used to. Women were looked down upon, mistreated, and men did not realize what they go through, but in today's society there is no reason why a female is being paid less than someone else doing the same job. Whether male or female, if the person is doing the job right, he or she should be paid for doing so. This issue is wrong and makes me curious as to why its a problem in the first
