There are two different types of Diabetes that have been discovered. “Type 1 diabetes occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and kills the beta cells of the pancreas. No, or very little, insulin is released into the body. As a result, sugar builds up in the blood instead of being used as energy. However, genetics can play a role in the likeliness of someone getting Diabetes. “29.1 million people in the United States have diabetes, but 8.1 million may be undiagnosed and unaware of their condition.” (https://www.healthline.com/health/type-2-diabetes/statistics#1) That is an outrageous number of people being sick with diabetes. Older age people have a severely higher risk of getting Diabetes opposed to someone of a younger age. Although, there is no specific age targeted by Diabetes. There is not a certain ethnic group affected, it is able to harm people of all sorts.
Signs and symptoms of Diabetes include: hunger, fatigue, urinating more often than usual, thirsty, dry mouth, and itchy skin. These are only some of the signs and symptoms are developing the disease. After patients realize they have the signs and symptoms that pertain to diabetes doctors will run a test. The test most use requires a patient to drink a sugary drink and for the next few hours that doctor will watch the levels of the blood sugar which will determine if that patient has Diabetes or not. After someone has been diagnosed, they begin treatment.
