Diabetes A total of 29.1 million people or 9.3% of the population have diabetes. Diabetes is a metabolic disease in which the body inability to produce any or enough insulin causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood. There are a lot of simple ways to live a healthier life and prevent diabetes at the same time. Diabetes is caused from the beta cells that do not produce enough insulin, or the body does not respond to insulin. “Glucose builds up in the blood instead of being absorbed by cells in the body, leading to prediabetes or diabetes.” (Shuldiner 1). Shuldiner is telling how the beta cells cause diabetes from the lack of insulin being distributed in the body. As shuldiner noted that diabetes is caused by lack of insulin.
