First, human activity has affected the Bays health negatively by factors such as polluting the waters with waste and chemicals. One human factor that affects the ecosystem is non-point source pollutants. As it says in paragraph two in "Attack of the soil", "fertilizers and pesticides from lawns and farms; soap from people washing their cars; and trash that is thrown on the ground." This shows that everyday things humans use could affect the environment if we aren't careful. Another human factor that affects the ecosystem is how we use the land. As it says in paragraph four, "Large tracts of land were cleared for various uses, leading to loss of forests. Intensive hunting practices led to the serious decline or extinction of some species." In paragraph 1 of "Plants and Animals respond", "Today, elk, wolves, and cougars are extinct in Maryland." The second reason the bays health needs to be restored is because the bay is an important place for living organisms. As it says in paragraph 1 of "How excess nutrients harm the bay", "SAVs are very important to blue crabs because they provide food, shelter, and nursery areas." This shows the bay is an important place for breeding grounds and the growth of many
