Chesapeake Bay is a very important ecosystem. But, there are many human activities that cause negative impacts on the bay. There are many reasons as to why there is a great need for the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay. But, there are actions that people can take to strive for the better future of the Chesapeake Bay. From 1998 to 2002, the blue crab population has greatly declined in just 4 years. The population of blue crabs was once about 900 million, but recently it has declined to 300 million. As algae growth in the Chesapeake Bay increases, there is a decrease in the amount of oysters. The decline in the amount of oysters then causes a decline in the population of blue crabs. This is no different when it comes to the Chesapeake Bay. As said in the text, "The negative impact that human activity has on the bay is caused by building residential developments that replace wetlands, forests, and meadows." This then causes a decrease in ecosystems. Also from the passage, "Things such as production of electricity, the divertion of water for human use, and sewage treatment plants all put stress onto the bay." These are just a few examples of human activity that causes negative effects to the bay. Finally, the text says, "Large tracts of land have been cleared for various uses, this has caused a loss of habitats for many animals." These are just some of the impact human activity has on the Chesapeake Bay.

The health of the Chesapeake Bay is very important. The text claims, "Due to negative effects from harmful pollutants to the environment there has been a decline or extinction of plants such as the atamasco lily." These harmful pollutants have caused great problems for wildlife inside the bay.
