Humans alone have a great impact on the health and wellness of Chesapeake Bay. Human waste and chemicals get washed into the Bay and pollute the fresh water. This waste can be from “chemicals from tar on roads; fertilizers and pesticides from lawns and farms; soap from people washing their cars; and trash that is thrown on the ground” are all examples given by Source 1. There are many ways we can help restore the Bay’s health. One reason the Bay must be saved is the nutrient levels are getting out of hand. Source 2 says, “Excess nutrients cause too much plant growth”. Too much plant growth can have many bad side effects. Excess plant growth includes the growth of algae which coats the surface of the water, blocking sunlight for plants that survive underwater. Another reason it must be saved is it’s also affecting the health of the animals, including the blue crab. The excess nutrients can also cause oxygen problems in the water. As stated by Source 2, “Low dissolved oxygen conditions caused by excess nutrients are the primary reason bottom sections of the Bay are unsuitable for blue crab habitat.” Excess nutrients are a huge problem for both plants and wildlife. It affects oxygen and sunlight exposure, which can determine the wellness of these
